The outlet has built in safety shutters that block foreign objects from being inserted into the receptacle, as many new outlets have. This may make it harder to insert a plug the first few times. Make sure both plug prongs contact the shutters simultaneously. Do this a few times and the shutters loosen up. The USB outlets provide high speed charging. I tested this by plugging my Samsung phone directly into the USB outlet and timed it until fully charged. Then when my phone battery was down to the same level as the previous test, I plugged my Samsung Fast Charger into the regular electrical outlet and the time until fully charged was the same. There is probably a more scientific method of testing, but this was close enough for me. Sparks and circuit breaker blown! The wiring connection uses one screw on either side. Since there is only one screw per side, series wiring adds a bit of thickness to the connection. This causes the screws to project out further. The screw on the right side of one comes into contact with the screw on the left side of the other. I could slap a bit of electric tape on each screw but doing so is neither code nor safe. These will be returned and replaced with receptacles which use wire insertion in the rear of the outlet. That too may be a challenge since these receptacles are quite bulky. On checking, I see that another reviewer complained of similar problem with clearance on metal box. (Plastic boxes are almost impossible to find these days.) They are cUL listed and thus approved for use in Canada. There is a stamp on the back I installed these on my backsplash in the kitchen and had to add a box extender. The device is fills out an entire 2.5" single gang box. One thing to note is that if you are using metal boxes and 12 gauge wire (as you should in Ontario when using 20 Amp plugs) you should cover the sides of the plug with electrical tape as otherwise the terminal screws may touch the box and cause arcing. In my case my boxes are on an exterior wall and are plastic. Also the box extender I am using fits this device very snugly and is plastic and could serve the purpose of insulating it against the metal box in other use cases. The box extender I am using is an Arlington BE1. The charging function is solid as well. It does deliver the full 30W when using multiple devices. The left USB-A Port charges my iPad Pro nice and quick. The middle USB-A and the USB-C port share 3.3A. If just using the USB-C port I am able to draw the 3.3A from that port. Note that it only supports 5V, so you will not be charging devices asking for more volts with any more than the 5V this plug promises. That is fine for some devices, which will simply charge slower (such as the Nintendo Switch) but it will not work with laptops. It does not support USB-C PD or QuickCharge as far as I can tell, so it''s just regular USB charging. All in all, it does exactly what it says on the box and I am very pleased with this purchase!
